Project Background:  The Hong Kong Association of Medical Laboratories (HKAML), representing most of the 40+ active medical laboratories in Hong Kong, has evaluated the initiative of health care reform, is supportive of it and the eHealth, and would participate in the electronic Health Records (eHR) Sharing.  In February 2011, the HKAML is granted a fund to design and implement a Laboratory Management Solution (LMS) project for the private sector of the medical laboratory industry, with the following objectives:

  1. 1.       Raise the awareness and support of the coming changes brought forth by the healthcare reform and sharing of eHR,
  2. 2.       Create a common and open source platform for the industry to support electronic information exchange,
  3. 3.       Provide standardized laboratory data to medical clinics to support standardized and integrated eHR,
  4. 4.       Provide a foundation which paves way for the territory-wide eHR sharing and healthcare service delivery infrastructure.

This project is expected to be completed within 18 months, which is commenced in February 2011 and expected to complete by July 2012.

 

Project Deliverables:  The project will offer the following deliverables:

  1. 1.       Training Programme – To reach 400 laboratory professionals including Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) and associated laboratory professionals,
  2. 2.       Laboratory Integration Platform  – To provide on-site technical support to 18 private laboratories and 6 private hospital laboratories to help them adopt eHR compliant standards and solutions through the deployment of Laboratory Integration Hub (LIH) and Laboratory Integration Module (LIM),
  3. 3.       End-to-End Clinic-Laboratory Integration – To reach 10 private laboratories, 4 private hospital laboratories, and 60 medical clinics using Clinic Management Systems.
